Nutrition and Dietetics

Registered Dietitians (RD) are highly trained food and nutrition experts that are well equipped to help you navigate your changing nutritional needs through all stages of life and through your cancer journey.

Dietitians use researched-based scientific, medical, and nutritional information to guide their practice. You will work with your dietitian to understand your nutritional needs, concerns and goals and make an individualized plan together.

What is a registered dietitian?

Registered Dietitians are regulated healthcare professionals who have earned a bachelor’s degree in food and nutrition, have completed a minimum of 1250 hours of supervised practical training hours, and have passed a regulatory exam. Your Registered Dietitian will conduct a thorough review of your medical, lifestyle, and dietary history as well as future goals. They will work with you to develop a detailed action plan that meets your specific dietary and lifestyle needs.

Nutrition considerations for cancer patients

With so many diet trends out there, it is hard to know what is sustainable and suitable for you! There is never a “one size fits all” diet, and this is especially true for cancer patients. Your needs are unique and ever evolving and it is important that you are receiving accurate, evidence-based advice from a professional. Our dietitian is uniquely qualified to help you through your changing dietary requirements. Whether it be preparing to fuel your body throughout chemotherapy treatment, increase tissue healing after surgery, or navigate body changes due to perimenopause or menopause, we are here to help you.

Nutrition support and guidance is a key part of recovery and survivorship. Our dietitian is equipped to provide professional support to help you navigate many dietary needs and complex situations.

At Breast Rehab, we recommend a consultation with a registered dietitian at any point before, during or after your cancer journey–or even for general wellbeing. Following your assessment, they will work with you to develop an individualized plan focusing on education and lifestyle changes, all while providing ongoing support.
